Buran, meanwhile, had been mugged by roughnecks in the city’s underbelly while looking for supplies for the trip off-planet to rescue Darba. as he recovered from his injuries upon being found by B-3PO, he determined to prevent further harm to himself by hiring bodyguards. he was luckily able to make use of his parents’ money to hire them.
after returning to the junkyard with new thugs in tow, Buran found the obsessive mechanic, Stripe, to be hard at work making the YT-1300f transport (dubbed “The Radical”) operational and walling off anyone except B-3PO who he used for heavy lifting. just then, the Aak family starship returned, landing just next to The Radical and out marched Buran’s parents — captured by Darba!
the wily Gungan and his droid companions had apprehended the traitorous employers and went to go turn them in to the police for bounty. Kal Be joined in, selling Jax and Huunphora.
while C2-1B tried to board The Radical, Stripe denied him access out of suspicion for the droid’s misbehavior which had gotten him arrested. in the ensuing conflict, Buran was granted exlusive access to his parent’s ship and managed to use it’s clandestine software to electronically transfer ownership of the ship and his parents’ bank accounts to him under his name and reset the passwords.
once everyone had settled their disputes and resumed teamwork, the two ships prepared for take-off. but just then, Darba feel suddenly very ill and reached an incredible core body temperature of double gungan normal. after diagnosis from C2, it was confirmed that he had contracted a virus genetically engineered to absorb and disperse nuclear radiation and seep it into the host’s body even as it multiplied. Darba was quarentined on The Radical, cared for by the droids, and both ships raced off into space.
B-3PO knew of only one possible way to save Darba’s life; the Adris Spice mined on Empress Teta had medicinal qualities which could prove beneficial to the ailing gungan, but was located in the Deep Core. with desperate and dangerous astrogating, the two crews narrowly navigated a hyperspace route to the planet.
halfway through the 4 day journey, the two starships were mysteriously attacked by a small wing of headhunters with unkown pilots. the ensuing dogfight lasted for only a short chaotic period of time, before the team remapped their route and continued on their trip with a new hyperspace jump.
landing on the planet of Empress Teta, the team rushed to the hospital emergency center to report the diagnosis and plead their case for Darba’s healthcare and Spice treatment. Buran was able to negotiate a deal with the help of B-3PO’s beaurocratic knowledge and the team was joined by a Mandalorian who seemed to know Darba. agreeing to work together for pay, the bounty hunter Talis Kote accompanied Buran, Kal Be and B-3PO to the Mining Guild’s main location to aquisition a direct shipment of Andris Spice.
negotiations were strained, and a deal was only struck with the agreement that our heroes venture deep into the Spice Mines to determine and put an end to a theft of workers and material on-location. Kal Be disguised herself as one of the workers while the rest kept a close eye on the area.
when suspicious activity began taking place in the form of security guards abandoning posts and taking workers and material with them, the group followed. Kal Be went with a group of other workers corralled by the guards, while the others shadowed them. what they discovered was shocking.
a strange mechanical structure part building and part device was secretly located in the heart of the asteroid, and it bore stunning resemblance to the architecture of the ancient Sith. B-3PO was able to determine that this was the headquarters of a dangerous cult, The Krath. and with remote help from Stripe (who was busy junkyard scrapping for the hospital as payment for repairing their machinery) they were able to uncover the operation of the structure.
Kal’s cover was blown moments before her teammates arrived at the scene, and a gunfight broke out even as Stripe cracked the code to hack the structure’s system, being aided by the main computer of the Aak family ship. the secret cult operation was being led by a mysterious woman with Dark Side Force powers connected to the Sith order. though Talis was unconvinced that this Krath cultist could have been trained by a ghost of a Sith, he also knew that she was indeed using Sith practices.
the woman and her guards were defeated in an intense and frantic combat, where Kal Be was shot directly but not fatally. the guards weapons were taken, and Buran began investigating emediately upon delivering the killing blow to the dying Sith woman.
